Report on the First Annual Hong Kong INNOPAC Users Meeting

12 December 2000

The First Annual Hong Kong INNOPAC Users Meeting was held on the 15 & 16 of November 2000 in the Hong Kong Baptist University.  Over 130 participants from INNOPAC users in Hong Kong and Japan attended the Meeting. Agenda of the meeting is available at the Annual Meeting Website (http://hkiug.ln.edu.hk/meetings/am2000/am.html).

JULAC’s Chairperson, Mrs. Shirley Leung of Baptist University, officially opened the Meeting.  Representatives from Innovative Interfaces Inc., Mr. Aaron Blazer and Ms. Jackie Lu demonstrated various modules of the Millennium product and answered questions from the floor.  CJK issues and INNOPAC’s interface with netLibrary were among the topics discussed.  There were also presentations from members of UGC libraries and the Hospital Authority Library. Topics included cataloguing of e-journals, remote access to e-resources, in-house developed ILL systems, and the HKCAN project.

Mrs. Leung concluded that the Meeting was a successful and fruitful one.  She thanked III for its continuing efforts in perfecting its products. She was impressed by the various presentations from member libraries and encouraged more sharing of ideas among INNOPAC users. She also thanked the HKIUG for their hard work in preparing the Meeting.   Representative from Waseda University Library, Mr. Yoshiaki Fukazawa, also addressed the Meeting.  He would like to see a formal channel of communication like a listserv be setup to improve communication among East Asian INNOPAC users.

An online evaluation was conducted after the meeting. Results indicated that the majority of participants were pleased with the programme organization, presentations, and logistic arrangements. Most participants have expressed that more time is needed for the Q & A sessions. Detailed evaluation results are available at the Annual Meeting Website.

Overall, the First Annual Hong Kong INNOPAC Users Meeting was a success. The HKIUG would like to express our gratitude to colleagues at HKBU Library for their generous support in hosting this annual event.
