HKIUG "Be Innovative" Award - Selection Criteria

 HKIUG “Be Innovative” Award

At the 8th Hong Kong Innovative Users Group Annual Meeting it is proposed that a “Be Innovative”award will be made for the paper or presentation which demonstrates a unique, creative or effective application of products marketed by Innovative Interfaces Inc.

The purpose of the award is to encourage a larger pool of quality papers or presentations submitted for the IUG Meeting, and to recognize and highlight the work being done to improve library management and service delivery through the application or development of these products.

The award is similar in concept to the “Be Innovative” award presented by Innovative Interfaces at its North American IUG. However, in recognition of the smaller number of libraries using Innovative products in Hong Kong, the award will be open to any individual or organization submitting a paper for the HKIUG.

The award will consist of a plaque or trophy and will be made to the presenter(s) of the paper during the HKIUG (with exact timing to be determined when the IUG program is established). The award will be presented by the senior representative of Innovative Interfaces Inc. at the meeting, and will acknowledge both the individuals and their parent organization.

 Eligibility Criteria

The “Be Innovative” award will be judged on the following criteria;

  1. All papers or presentations submitted for the HKIUG will be eligible for the award.
  2. Submissions will be evaluated on the full paper or PowerPoint presentation submitted to the HKIUG prior to the conference.
  3. Date for submission of full papers or PowerPoint presentations and therefore of submissions for the “Be Innovative” award is Monday, 12th November 2007.
  4. The papers or presentations must be accepted for inclusion in the HKIUG Meeting, and the presenter available to receive the award.
  5. The papers must demonstrate - in the view of the Selection Panel - a particularly creative, innovative or effective use of an Innovative product to improve the management or delivery of library and information services or resources.
  6. The decision of the Selection Panel is final.

Selection Panel and Procedures

  1. The Selection Panel will consist of all representatives or their nominees of HKIUG Standing Committee 2007-2008.
  2. Each representative can execute a maximum of 3 votes with ranking on the selected papers. (3 scores for the highest rank, 1 for the lowest)
  3. If representatives vote the paper(s) submitted by their own institutions, the vote will be void.
  4. All votes must be submitted to hkiug@lib2000.ln.edu.hk from 13 November to 23 November, 2007 inclusive.
  5. All votes cannot be changed once submitted.
  6. The paper with the highest number of votes will be the winner of the Award. (see example 1)
  7. If two or more papers receive the same number of the highest votes, then the one with the highest scores will be the winner of the Award. (see example 2)

The Selection Panel will conduct its evaluations between the 12th November and 30th November. The Selection Panel may seek additional information from potential candidates for the award where appropriate.

The Selection Panel may elect not to make an award if it is felt that the papers are not of an adequate standard.

As both Paper 1 and Paper 2 obtain the same number of the highest votes, the winner will be determined by the paper with the highest scores received.  Therefore, the winner in this example is also Paper 1.
